Gone are the days where Chip & Joanna Gaines and Fixer Upper made you want to turn EVERY corner in your home farmhouse. Read along if you want to update your kitchen to modern farmhouse without the overuse of signs, mason jars (GUILTY!), and Rae Dunn.
When I think of modern farmhouse, I think of light and airy colors with natural woods and industrial accents. You can never go wrong with Sherwin Williams Extra White, Mindful Grey, Accessible Beige, Sea Salt, and Hinting Blue. Look no further than Iron Ore, Outerspace, and Gauntlet Grey for deeper tones.
Cabinets: Any lighter shade of tan, or even white, would help bring this look to life. if you want to go bold, add in one of the colors that I listed above and use that on your base cabinets or island!
THE Sink: I know you know exactly what I’m talking about… the Farmhouse Sink with the beautiful apron that every Chip & Jo fan wants in her kitchen. White is typically the more popular color, but you also can’t go wrong with a black one. Honestly, if you’re more picky about your sink being dirty, go with the black 😉 And you can’t forget the beautiful matte black faucet that pairs perfectly with either color, and your cabinet pulls.

Seating: I love a good black wrought iron base with a natural wood seat! There are SO many options like this, but here is my personal favorite:

Lighting: Don’t overdue it with all the “natural wood” accents that you’re adding in. Try to stick with a black/industrial type of chandelier and pendants. It will be a lot easier to switch out holiday decor with these timeless pieces.

Backsplash: I am going to give only one option because there are MULTIPLE ways that you can incorporate it! White subway tile is a classic. You can do the traditional horizontal layout or mix it up with vertical or herringbone. Then you can go with white, grey or even black grout. Whatever your heart desires!

Cabinet Hardware: Keep it simple and stick with a matte black. I chose a more square pull bar to keep with the simplicity of the rest of the space.

Accessorize: Add in a few pieces that you can leave up year round, and again aren’t the traditional “farmhouse” sign. Subtle use of Mason jars as storage, glasses, or even vases for your fresh sunflowers is always great. Hand towels with a little pattern add to the quietness of the space. And an industrial roman numeral clock because we mamas are never on time, no matter how many clocks there are in the house!

So there you have the Modern Farmhouse Kitchen inspiration look that doesn’t scream “farmhouse!” or even a copy & paste of Chip & Joanna.
